Every year, when Christmas draws nearer, I have not failed to find myself in moments of ridiculous anxiety and stress.. Probably because I tend to cling to organization and control, characteristics that habitually hinder faith in God's sovereignty. I find it extremely ironic that in the season that celebrates the most awaited and glorious birth of all… a night our Savior was born unto us out of the unconditional, incomprehensible love of our Heavenly Father and Creator… the most beautiful and undeserving gift of all… a season of advent, admiration, knee-breaking gratitude towards the beauty in God's sacrificial love through his perfect Son to us…. and yet I get caught up in the distraction of the selfish-time-plus-money consuming rituals that America in the past century has produced out of the day of Jesus Christ's birth. Not that it isn't fun and makes the season bright and full of joy… But that I have a habit of letting the traditions of gift-giving and receiving consume my every waking thought during the season that should be bringing me to a complete halt and breath-taking awe of silence and worship. Jesus. "He was my first, He is my last, He is my future and my past." My everything. The fire that burns in my soul, and whom I so eagerly wait for his return and to stand in his radiating glory forevermore. O Lord, remind me who brought life into my dead bones just 3 years ago, and joy to the empty hole in my heart, and a never-ending fountain of satisfaction and peace. O Lord, teach me to number my days. "The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you? So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." (Psalms 90)
